Kroger stumps up $55m for first Ocado-powered 'shed'

Kroger has chosen its hometown of Cincinnati for the first of 20 high-tech warehouses it plans to build with Ocado, the result of a deal signed earlier this year.

"We are joining with the best partners in the world to co-innovate and leverage technology to redefine the customer experience," says Rodney McMullen, Kroger's Chairman and CEO. "We are incredibly excited to partner with Ocado to transform the industry and deliver on our Restock Kroger vision to serve America through food inspiration and uplift.”

The first customer fulfilment centre (CFC) – aka a ‘shed’ – will be constructed in Monroe, OH, a suburb north of Cincinnati, subject to securing state and local incentives. Kroger is investing $55 million to build it, with the facility measuring 335,000 square feet and generating more than 410 new jobs.
