Cosmose AI raids Google Brain to make Karol Kurach CTO

Retail tech startup Cosmose AI has appointed Karol Kurach as Chief Technology Officer.

Cosmose is an analytics software provider that anticipates how people shop offline. Late last year, it raised $12 million seed investment, led by TDJ Pitango and OTB Ventures, to fund its international expansion.

Kurach previously worked at Google Brain, where he tapped Big Data, machine learning and deep learning in the development of Gmail's Comprehension and Intelligence projects, Smart Reply and Smart Labels. He also worked on the Google Research Football project.

“Karol was a driving force of AI behind Google’s Gmail, one of the best examples of how machine learning can improve people's lives. I’m confident under his leadership we will reach new heights of AI excellence and will prove how by understanding people better we can serve them better,” says Miron Mironiuk, CEO and Founder, Cosmose.

“Cosmose has already made a name for itself in the retail industry - identified a problem facing the ecosystem and developed a solution trusted by the world's top brands,” Kurach comments.

“I'm thrilled to be part of this rocket ship, and look forward to working closely with the engineering team and leadership to make the infrastructure and research world-class. Despite its rapid growth, I believe Cosmose is still less than 1% done. The coverage of over a billion smartphones creates a huge potential  for modern machine learning models and algorithms.”
