Justin Owen takes on Chief Financial Officer role at autonomous inventory tracking firm Verity

Justin Owen has been appointed by supply chain technology specialist Verity as CFO.

He previously held the same role at renewables platform Pexapark.

In a LinkedIn post, Owen said: "After taking some time off with the family, I am thrilled to share that I’ve joined Verity as Chief Financial Officer. I am honoured to be joining Raffaello D'Andrea, Markus Hehn, and Markus Waibel, the founders of Verity on this exciting journey to an unbounded future."

He added: "Verity is the leader in automated inventory tracking solutions, leveraging AI powered self-flying drones to transform warehouse operations. With close to 150 deployments worldwide, it is helping some of the world’s largest logistics providers, manufacturers, and retailers achieve unparalleled accuracy, efficiency, and visibility across their supply chains."

"What drew me to Verity is its proven ability to leverage AI for real, productive use cases in logistics. With a flexible, fully autonomous system and intelligent data capture, it is setting a new standard for warehouse automation, ensuring that businesses get the right insights, at the right time, with minimal operational disruption. Looking ahead, the vision is exciting - redefining automation to make it smarter, faster and more accessible."

RFID technology

Verity recently reported a collaboration with On and Maersk on a pilot project aiming to bridge the gap between the physical and digital supply chain environments by augmenting its autonomous inventory tracking system with radio frequency identification (RFID) capabilities.

The pilot explores the potential of RFID technology and drones to enhance inventory visibility in one of On’s warehouses.

Verity’s AI driven, vision-based system delivers inventory insights in more than 100 warehouses globally, in collaboration with various warehousing operators. One limitation, however, has been tracking inventory beyond line of sight. By integrating RFID, Verity says it is able to extend its vision inside and beyond boxes, enabling precise tracking and identification of individual items, such as products and packages, at every stage of the warehouse lifecycle.

Its drones autonomously navigate warehouse aisles, scanning RFID tags with over 99.9% accuracy at rates of up to 1,000 tags/items per second, it is claimed.

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

Supply chain technology will be a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards. which will open for entries in March, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”

He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”

“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”

Congratulations to our 2024 winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Lucy Porter, and all those who attended November's gathering.
