Super-Pharm, CommonSense Robotics notch up micro-fulfillment first
CommonSense Robotics is laying claim to the world’s first one-hour delivery fulfilled by robots, in partnership with Israeli health and beauty retailer, Super-Pharm.
Last year, the startup launched an autonomous sorting and shipping centre in downtown Tel Aviv. This measures just 6,000 square feet in total, which is substantially smaller than most hubs, some of which have floor plans exceeding 120,000 square feet, the company says.
“While automation makes large-scale fulfillment economically viable, the physical remoteness of typical big box facilities has prevented retailers from offering true on-demand delivery,” it adds. “By harnessing networks of tiny automated centres, micro-fulfillment enables retailers to store their goods in the hearts of cities while still benefiting from the efficiency of automation. This provides retailers with the ability to meet consumers on-demand needs, profitably.”
