Online slot myths debunked

Slots are great fun to play as they are – a game that you have to pay to play and that offer a relaxing way to unwind (along with a fair bit of excitement).

But for some, they are looking for more. It can be tempting to think there might be some kind of magic wand to wave over when you play slot games that will mean it empties of all its secrets (and its cash), but this is not the case.

The myths that go along with this idea have grown up over time, and take a lot to debunk. However, it’s important to know the truth when playing slots so that you can enjoy the game and not be disappointed when something you thought was going to happen doesn’t.

Slot games can be due a win

The myth that slots can be ‘due a win’ after a while of not paying out anything at all is a big one, and one that a lot of people truly believe. However, this is just not how online slots or those found in a traditional casino work at all – the truth is there is no way of predicting when a win will come, and the game itself certainly doesn’t know that it’s ‘due’ to make someone’s day.

This is because each slot is programmed using a random number generator (RNG) system. This means that the way the symbols land at the end of every spin is entirely random, and that means that sometimes there will be a win and – more often because there are more losing combinations – there will be a loss. Nothing is ever guaranteed and even if you’ve been playing for hours it could be many hours more before you see a win. Equally, you might win on the first spin. That’s the fun of slots.

Land based slots are better payers than online slots

Another rumour about slots is that online slots don’t pay out as much or as often as land based ones. Again, although it might feel as though this is the case (possibly because you can see other people playing at a traditional casino, so you see when they win, whereas in an online casino you’re on your own and can’t tell what is happening with other players), it’s not. The RNG is the same no matter what platform you happen to play on or what game you happen to play.

As for the amount you can win, that will depend on the game, no on where or how you are playing it. Some games do pay out more, and some do have better odds, but that’s not anything to do with whether you’re online or not.

Slot games pay out at certain times of day

Let’s face it; any idea that slots can be rigged or predicted needs to be done away with. It’s just not possible. The rules state that any game has to be created with the RNG in place, otherwise it’s illegal. So, because there is no benefit to the developers or the casinos to bypass this idea, the rules are followed.

The truth is, slots are random. Most of the time you will lose, sometimes you will win, but if you go into the slots with an open mind and only spend money you can afford to lose, you’ll enjoy the gameplay – a win is just a bonus if it happens.
