eBay turns to Apple Pay after PayPal split

eBay is continuing its move away from PayPal as its primary payment processing service by adding support for Apple Pay.

This will initially be available to a small group of Marketplace customers during the first phase of a roll-out. eBay plans to move more people to Apple Pay next year and aims to have everyone onboard by 2021.

The venture split from PayPal back in 2015, but it took until early 2018 for it to announce Adyen as its new primary payment processor earlier this year. This enables it to add multiple checkout options.

Steve Fisher, Senior Vice President of Payments at eBay, says: "Apple Pay is one of the most ubiquitous forms of payments and provides users with an easy, fast and secure way to pay. Offering Apple Pay as a form of payment on eBay is the first step in providing more choice and flexibility in payment options to our tens of millions of buyers."
