Openpay inks monthly payment deal with Ideal Shopping Direct

Ideal Shopping Direct will this Christmas launch a buy now, pay later service with Openpay.

This will enable customers to pay up in to 12 instalments. “We expect this new monthly payment offering will be popular with customers, especially for higher ticket items,” says CEO Jamie Martin.

Ideal Shopping Direct is one of the UK’s largest multi-channel home shopping retailers. It sells to over 31 million UK customers through channels on Sky, Freeview, Virgin and late-night ITV, plus 35 million homes in America and on its own websites.

It recently announced that it expects to record a £5 million profit in its results for the financial year to December 2019, following a £32 million loss in the same period last year. “As the British Retail Consortium has reported worrying sales figures and the likes of Links of London and Mothercare go into administration, it’s clear consumers are concerned about the economy during Brexit but the show must go on,” says Martin.

“There's a danger that some retailers are using Brexit as a catch-all excuse for their falling sales. Consumers just don't shop in the way they used to. They are more likely to be looking at three windows comparing prices, packages and delivery options, than making a snap decision based on what's on the shelves on the day they happen to go to the shops.”

Black Friday, meanwhile, will be Ideal Shopping Direct’s “biggest and best yet” with ‘Brexit Blockbuster events’. “This brings the noise of Brexit front and centre and we use it as a positive as to why we are offering such a good deal,” Martin concludes.
