Boxing Day sales: Footfall slumps but bumper 27th predicted

UK Boxing Day footfall decreased by 11.8% compared to 2018, according to ShopperTrak.

27th December is, however, expected to be a peak day for in-store shopper traffic and the fifth busiest physical shopping day of the entire Christmas trading period.

“As Boxing Day fell on a Thursday this year, it is anticipated that the peak in shopper traffic will take place on Friday, 27th December, as shoppers make the most of taking an extra day off to extend the Christmas break, allowing them to shop or return gifts,” says Nick Pompa, Global General Manager at ShopperTrak.

Overall footfall for the year, meanwhile, is currently up 0.1% against the same period in 2018.
