Kroger starts Stateside Kroger Pay roll-out
The Kroger Co. is introducing Kroger Pay, a mobile payment solution that combines shoppers’ payment information with loyalty cards and promotions. Available in the retailer’s app, it generates a QR code that can be scanned at traditional checkouts as well as self-checkout stations.
"Kroger Pay is one of the few mobile wallets that pairs loyalty and payment," says Mary Ellen Adcock, Group Vice President of Operations. "The application of this exciting technology is another step in our front-end experience transformation."
The offering recently launched in the retailer's Columbus, Ohio division. It will roll-out to 10 additional markets in the spring, with plans to go nationwide later this year. With the announcement, Kroger lines up alongside a number of other US retailers that have launched their own self-branded payment apps, including Target and Walmart.
