IWD 2019 - 10 women leading the way in the retail tech world

To mark International Women’s Day 2019, RTIH brings you 10 women who are making positive impacts on the retail technology sector.

1.) Jo Hickson, Head of Tesco Labs

Tesco’s technology R&D arm, Tesco Labs, recently announced Jo Hickson as its new head. 

Jo’s previous roles include Head of Innovation at TUI and Group Head of Innovation at Home Retail Group. “Great to have started my new position as Head of Tesco Labs! I’m excited to join a team with such breadth and depth of experience – looking forward to seeing what the future holds,” she said in a tweet.

2.) Natalie Berg, Founder, NBK Retail

Before founding NBK Retail, a consultancy specialising in retail trends and strategy, Natalie was Director of Retail Insights at Planet Retail. She is also a regular industry commentator for the BBC, Bloomberg, CNBC and Sky News.

3.) Miya Knights, Head of Industry Insight, Eagle Eye

Prior to Eagle Eye, Miya was Global Technology Research Director at Planet Retail, and a Senior Research Analyst with IDC Retail Insights. She has edited Retail Technology magazine for 10 years, which she also now owns and publishes.

4.) Hayley Meenan-Wilkin, Web Trading Management, Ocado

Hayley joined Ocado last year, with responsibility for managing the web trading function for the Beauty, Health, Kids, Baby and Clothing categories. She has also been Head of Web Operations at Tesco.com, Head of E-commerce at Bathstore and International Head of Operations at Maplin Electronics.

5.) Marissa Tarleton, CEO, RetailMeNot

Prior to taking on the CEO role, Marissa had served as Chief Marketing Officer at online coupon venture RetailMeNot since 2015. Further info here.

6.) Clodagh Moriarty, Group Chief Digital Officer, Sainsbury’s

Last year, Sainsbury's promoted Clodagh Moriarty to its Operating Board as Group Chief Digital Officer. Further details here.

7.) Catherine Shuttleworth, CEO and Founder, Savvy Marketing

In addition to heading up Savvy Marketing, Catherine regularly provides retail sector comment for the media.

“In my career to date I have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic retailers and brands and it has given me real experience about what makes shoppers tick,” she says.

8.) Zoe Mills, UK Retail Analyst, GlobalData

As an analyst at GlobalData Retail, Zoe specialises in electricals, entertainment and big retail occasions such as Christmas, Mother's Day and Black Friday.

10.) Lihi Pinto Fryman, Co-founder and CMO, Syte

Marks & Spencer recently announced that it was working with Syte on the launch of Style Finder, a mobile website feature that enables customers to quickly find products with a photo.

“When we founded Syte it was born from our own personal desire to interact with the images around us. We truly believe that it is natural for people to be able to interact, on a deep level, with the images that inspire them,” Lihi told RTIH in an interview last year.

“From this firm belief, we started Syte. Since launching in 2014, it is clear that we weren't wrong. People love to scroll, like, share and shop from the world around them.”
