MacKenzie Bezos onboard with Giving Pledge initiative
MacKenzie Bezos, the former wife of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, is to give half of her $36 billion fortune to charity.
She is one of 19 people who this week announced they were joining the Giving Pledge, a campaign announced in 2010 by Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett and Microsoft’s Bill Gates. "In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share," Bezos said in a statement. "My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care."
Jeff Bezos, who is not among the 204 Giving Pledge signatories, announced on Twitter: "MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I'm proud of her. Go get 'em MacKenzie."
