Lazada deploys Alibaba IP Protection Platform
Lazada has joined parent company Alibaba’s Intellectual Property Protection Platform, an online infringement claims processing system that allows brands to request the removal of infringing products from its shopping sites. Previously, those claims had been processed by email.
“As the pioneer of e-commerce and number one platform in Southeast Asia, we firmly believe that fostering reliability and trust in the e-commerce environment is key to accelerating progress for the region. IP protection is a priority at Lazada, and the launch of IP Protection Platform is part of our continuous efforts to work hand in hand with brands to ensure that IP policies are enforced,” says Pierre Poignant, CEO at Lazada Group.
Last year, Lazada kicked off a pilot programme to test the service for its marketplaces, with brands in the Alibaba Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance supporting the process. These were able to submit notifications via the portal, where they were reviewed by a Lazada team. Infringing listings were deactivated according to Lazada’s platform rules, and sellers were penalised in line with a new non-compliance system. Around 400 accounts had registered to use the portal by the time it officially launched on 28th June.
