Wirecard claims payments first with new smart mirror

Wirecard has revealed a prototype for a new smart mirror, developed by its Innovation Lab. This is pitched as Germany's first intelligent mirror through which people can also pay.

Shoppers can access a range of information while in the changing room: alternative sizes, different colours, matching products etc. If they click on ‘purchase’ and scan a QR code with their mobile device, payment is triggered. Items can then be picked up or delivered to their home address.

“The shopping experience is made unique by the buying process on the smart mirror: it offers individual recommendations and the possibility to request other colours or sizes without leaving the changing room,” says Jörn Leogrande, EVP Wirecard Labs.

“This concept is not only appealing to customers, but also offers merchants many benefits from additional sales opportunities. One of the key features is the easy and fully digital checkout, which can be done with the customer’s own device – no need to queue or take out their credit or loyalty cards.”
