Five retailers that are so eco-friendly right now

These retailers are at the forefront of the booming green retail movement.

1. Sainsbury's

Sainsbury’s has launched a reverse vending recycling trial at its Braehead Superstore in Glasgow.

2. Asda

Asda is set to become the first UK supermarket to stop providing single use plastic carrier bags with its online grocery orders.

3. The Co-op

The Co-op last month opened the doors to its Glastonbury festival pop-up store.

4. Alibaba Group

Alibaba Group and the United Nations recently partnered for World Environment Day. The aim was to engage the 721 million monthly active users on the Chinese e-commerce giant’s platforms and make it easy for them to participate in activities such as recycling and tree-planting.

5. Walmart

Walmart has revealed details for a new HQ in its home town of Bentonville, Arkansas as it looks to step up its digital strategy and attract the “next generation of talent”.

This will include solar panels atop parking decks, energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems, and regionally sourced building materials, including mass timber construction. Meanwhile, thousands of trees, shrubs and grasses will “provide habitat for wildlife, shade paths and bike trails, and reconnect associates with nature”.
