Oracle sues CryptoOracle for ‘trading on its reputation’

Oracle is suing blockchain startup CryptoOracle over its name.

CRN reports that the IT giant filed a lawsuit against the company and Louis Kerner, its owner and managing partner, claiming trademark infringement and cybersquatting in the Northern District of California.

The complaint states that the New York-based venture intentionally chose the brand name CryptoOracle “to trade on Oracle’s reputation as an innovator and leader within the technology industry, and to evoke among consumers the goodwill that Oracle has built in its own famous brand.”

Neither Oracle nor CryptoOracle replied to a request for comment. However, Kerner has shared this tweeted from Mike Dudas, founder of crypto news site The Block: “This is embarrassing nonsense from @Oracle. Good luck selling anything in crypto after suing great guys like @loukerner. What's next, suing projects with an oracle to transmit information from outside the network into a smart contract, a la @AugurProject?”
