GS25 launches unmanned c-store in South Korea
South Korean retailer GS25 has opened a cashierless convenience store in Jung District, Seoul.
This is located in the HQ of local credit card company BC Card. Customers enter the store by scanning a BC Paybook QR code from the latter’s mobile payment app.
34 deep learning cameras monitor their behaviour, whilst 300 weight sensors detect the number of items that customers choose.
Upon exiting, items are automatically paid for through a system using artificial intelligence technology and a mobile receipt is issued. A video-recognition speaker has been installed for when customers need assistance.
GS25, owned by GS Retail, is also planning to introduce technologies that guide customers to promotions when they approach a product stand.
