Currys PC World extends store opening hours ahead of coronavirus lockdown

Currys PC World is extending the opening hours of its stores across the UK (except in Wales) as it predicts a surge in demand for consumer tech products ahead of the second nationwide coronavirus lockdown, coming into effect on Thursday.

Most stores will be open until 8pm and some larger ones until 10pm. From Thursday, new government rules mean they will only be open for Currys PC World’s contactless Order & Collect offering.

Customers can also use the retailer’s online delivery service or park up at a store and have their tech delivered straight to their car boot without the need to physically interact with Currys PC World colleagues.

For those that shop online, a ShopLIve service connects customers to a video chat with one of its tech experts. Mark Allsop, Chief Operating Officer at Currys PC World, says, “Whilst we expect footfall to increase between now and Thursday, our extended opening hours will help ease the busy periods in-store.”

“We are able to welcome customers into our stores until the full nationwide lockdown begins and continue to support them through November.”

He adds: “The first lockdown led to unprecedented demand for consumer electronics, including items such as home office equipment, enabling Brits to work effectively and comfortably from home. We are expecting similar demand this time round,” he concludes.
