Laybuy and Andy Cole score home goal for Manchester United fan

Manchester United superfan, Shaun Leahy, got a pleasant surprise yesterday, involving the club’s former striker Andy Cole.

As a result of coronavirus restrictions, this is the first year in United’s 142-year history that its fans will be unable to attend festive matches.

Cole teamed up with club partner, buy now, pay later specialist, Laybuy, to transform key worker Leahy’s Coventry home into the grounds of Old Trafford.

The terraces were projected onto the walls of his home. There was also a Christmas dinner shared virtually with Cole as Leahy got to watch the Red Devils’ match against Sheffield United on Thursday night.

This forms part of Laybuy’s ‘Six Weeks of Christmas’ campaign, which offers fans at home club experiences, through six weekly prize drops, amidst continued coronavirus restrictions on attending match days.

Leahy – who has spent much of the year self-isolating due to an underlying health condition – got the all star treatment after the team and Laybuy learned of his struggles.

Cole says: “It was a pleasure to be able to surprise Shaun and hopefully he had an unforgettable experience. It has been a strange year and like many football fans, I have really missed watching live football.”

“As a player, the support of the fans and the noise of the crowds in the stands is what motivates you. There is nothing like it. Fans are starting to slowly return and as we wait for our turn at Old Trafford, I think what Laybuy have created for Shaun is the next best thing.”

Laybuy was announced as Manchester United’s first official buy now, pay later provider in October. Its offering will be available in the megastore from next year, giving fans the chance to buy shirts, merchandise etc and spread the cost with six, weekly payments interest-free.
