SumUp announces remote payments initiative amid coronavirus outbreak
London-headquartered FinTech SumUp has launched a coronavirus-related mobile payments solution for its British merchants.
This is pitched as an alternative for small businesses who would usually accept cash or card in-store, but are looking to offer remote ways of paying for goods and services to their customer base during the COVID-9 outbreak.
Merchants can request payments by sharing a link with the customer via email, WhatsApp, SMS or any other messaging platform. The customer then enters the payment details on their smartphone and confirms the transaction.
SumUp will take zero commission on payments received through the feature for existing and qualified merchants until 30th April. Marc-Alexander Christ, Co-Founder, SumUp, comments: “We currently serve millions of small businesses and artisans, many of whom are still able to keep their shops open and carry on selling their services, while others are having to entirely reinvent their core offering.”
"That's why, at a time when pre-emptive measures are being implemented throughout Europe and consumer behaviour is drastically changing, we think it’s extremely important to encourage people to use remote payments solutions that preserve the health and safety of our society and can serve as a potential boost for many small businesses in these difficult times.”
