Dixons Carphone helps OAP gamer with laptop issues

Dixons Carphone has come to the aid of a 92-year-old gamer who has been self-isolating in a care home during the coronavirus outbreak.

“We’re extremely proud of the way our team has gone above and beyond to help vulnerable customers,” the retailer said in a LinkedIn post.

“And nothing demonstrates their dedication more clearly than the story of how they recently collected a broken laptop for repair from a 92-year-old gamer who was self-isolating in a care home. The computer was a lifeline to Helen and she's thrilled to be on her way back online. Thanks again to our team for all you do,” it added.

Excellent work, guys!

Age UK partnership

Earlier this year, we reported that Dixons Carphone had made Age UK its new headline charity partner.

And It kicked off the tie up by sending hundreds of free laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards and headsets to Age UK’s Silver Line helpline teams, to help them maintain their support to older people during the coronavirus crisis.

Dixons Carphone chose Age UK after it won almost half of the votes in a poll of thousands of colleagues. Over the next two years, the partnership will tap a range of technology to combat loneliness, improve mental health, grow self-esteem and confidence and increase independence and community participation for older people.

“We’re delighted to partner with Dixons Carphone to support older people, especially during this unprecedented crisis. We’re both committed to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to access and benefit from amazing technology,” said Age UK Chief Executive, Steph Harland.

“Together, we can help older people to gain the skills and confidence to enjoy the benefits using technology can bring, and together we can make a real difference for older people through this crisis. Dixons Carphone’s immediate gift of vital technology for our staff has been a brilliant start.”
