Pricer lands major PLUS Retail deal

Dutch co-operative supermarket chain PLUS Retail has placed an order worth around 100 million SEK as a first phase to roll-out Pricer’s electronic shelf label (ESL) platform to all of its 265 stores.

The total project value is set to clock in at 165 million SEK.

PLUS Retail has integrated Pricer’s cloud-based ESL platform, the Pricer Plaza, to increase the efficiency of several in-store processes. And it has now decided to include the platform as well as SmartTag Power labels in all of its stores.

“We value Pricer’s ability to offer both innovation as well as reliability and durability,” says Duncan Hoy, CEO at PLUS Retail. “We are always striving to improve the customer experience, and these new solutions will really add value to both our customers and our store owners.”

Best Buy

Pricer recently announced a modified roll-out schedule and reduced order value for its Best Buy ESL project.

In December 2019 and February this year, the Swedish venture received orders from Best Buy to equip nearly 680 stores in the USA with its ESL system during 2020 at a value of around 925 million SEK.

With the coronavirus outbreak placing constraints on Best Buy’s bricks and mortar business, the two have come to an agreement to reduce the scope of the project by 150 stores and to delay the delivery of 40 stores into 2021. The revised project value is estimated to be 820 million SEK.

“Given these extraordinary circumstances, we have slowed the installation of electronic signs in our stores,” said Brian Tilzer, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Best Buy.

“The electronic signs we have in some stores are improving experience for employees and customers, and we look forward to expanding this impact as we deploy this technology more broadly in our chain in the future.”
