European Commission picks 30 ventures for Reimagine Fashion initiative

The European Commission has announced the semi-finalists of the 2020 European Social Innovation Competition.

The theme for this is ‘Reimagine Fashion: Changing behaviours for sustainable fashion’. Thirty projects from 14 countries were selected from a field of 766 applications.

The semi-finalists are all early stage projects that are working towards changing the ways we produce, buy, use and recycle fashion and encouraging a sustainable change in consumer behaviour. They will now receive expert help and support to further develop their ideas, before the judging panel meets again later this year to determine the 10 finalists and, ultimately, the three winners.

Looking to progress to the next stage are Romania’s ChoozFit, a proprietary outfit recommendation engine for digital fashion brands that helps consumers make more sustainable choices. Edith from Italy, meanwhile, is an app that offers personalised style tips and helps users to organise their wardrobes.

Spain’s Fluid Fashion Realities has come up with a system that allows users to match physical garments with digital projections of looks in real-time. The UK’s MYFACTORI is an AI driven operating system for on-demand distributed apparel manufacturing. Whilst Germany’s RE-NT is behind a digital platform that enables brands to rent out fashion products, track performance and recycle unwanted items.

Ireland’s Shuffle Swaps is a location-based swap-shop platform built as a "dating site" for clothes, where users swipe, match and swap with others. And Croatia’s Snake is a digital platform which applies augmented reality to change the way fashion is consumed.
