Chris Shaw is the new CIO at Selfridges

Selfridges has appointed Chris Shaw as Chief Information Officer.

He joins from Dunelm where he held the same position for seven years.

Prior to that, Shaw was Director of IT Services at Carphone Warehouse. He joined the retailer as Head of Service Transition in 2007, and then took on the role of Head of GIS Support and Billing Operations, before becoming Director of IT Services.

"I wish Dunelm all the best for the future and I am very much looking forward to being a part of the Selfridges team. It is going to be fun," he said in a LinkedIn post.

Job losses

Late last month, Selfridges said it was cutting 450 staff and noted that the coronavirus outbreak had led to "the toughest year we have experienced in our recent history".

In a letter to staff, boss Anne Pitcher said it was "the toughest decision we have ever had to take".

"The Covid-19 pandemic has forced change and caused us to rethink so many aspects of our lives and, will continue to do so as we adapt and respond to a new and evolving reality."

Selfridges needed to make "fundamental changes" and was examining every aspect of its business "to ensure we are fit for purpose and the future".

The retailer has four stores - one each in London and Birmingham, and two in Manchester. However, it has not yet indicated where the job cuts will be.
