Morrisons announces Amazon tie up recruitment drive

Morrisons is creating 1,000 new jobs to fulfil online orders for its Amazon partnership.

Britain's fourth biggest supermarket is hiring extra staff to work from more than 50 stores, covering most major UK cities and many towns.

Morrisons customers can now do their full food shop on Amazon.co.uk and get free same-day delivery on orders over £40 as part of their Prime membership.

Earlier this month, Morrisons said that it had taken on 45,000 temporary staff to cope with extra demand during the coronavirus outbreak, with 25,000 still in post of whom 6,000 had now been made permanent.

Serve Our Students service

Morrisons recently announced an SOS ‘Serve our Students’ food delivery service aimed at those who are self isolating in halls and campuses during the coronavirus outbreak.

This will launch at the Birley and Cambridge Halls at Manchester Met University, which has been particularly affected by the lockdown measures around student accommodation, and will expand to other universities if successful.

David Potts, Morrisons Chief Executive, said: “Students have asked for our help and that’s why we are making sure they can safely access affordable food at this very difficult time. We’re playing our full part in feeding the nation so that no one is left behind.”

There are five different food boxes to choose from - Meat Essentials, Vegetarian Essentials, Easy Meals for the Week and Big Night In. And not a single Pot Noodle in sight. Tsk. The youth of today…
