Litecoin
Last month, Walmart was the subject of a fake news release, which claimed a partnership with Litecoin.
The cryptocurrency saw a sudden surge in price as a result of the release, released by GlobeNewswire.
This stated that Walmart would accept Litecoin through all its digital stores. Several major news websites and press agencies spread the supposed news.
GlobeNewswire was subsequently forced to issue a notice across its service confirming that journalists and other readers should disregard the release.
It said "a fraudulent user account was used to issue an illegitimate press release".
"This has never happened before," the company added and stated that it was bringing in "enhanced authentication" to stop it happening again.
