Instacart boss Fidji Simo joins Shopify board of directors
Canadian e-commerce platform giant Shopify has added Fidji Simo to its board of directors.
Simo is the CEO and member of the board of directors at Instacart.
Prior to joining Instacart, she was the Vice President and Head of the Facebook app. Before that, she helped build out eBay’s local commerce and classified advertising initiatives.
“I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and small business owners, and am deeply passionate about enabling people to unlock unique economic opportunities,” says Simo.
“As I've gotten to know the Shopify team, it's clear we share the same passion for leveraging innovative technology to empower retailers and meet the evolving needs of their consumers. I look forward to joining the board as Shopify continues to serve as a powerful ally for independent businesses.”
“We are excited to welcome Fidji to Shopify’s board. She has shown bold product leadership, a passion for supporting small businesses, and experience working with founders throughout her career” says Tobi Lütke, Founder and CEO, Shopify.
“Her perspective and experience will deeply benefit Shopify. We know she’ll fit right in. She believes in the power of entrepreneurship the same way we do."

Shopify also recently appointed Allan Leinwand as Chief Technology Officer.
Leinwand’s CV includes stints as SVP Engineering at Slack, and Chief Technology Officer at both ServiceNow and Zynga.
He has also been a Venture Partner at Panorama Capital (previously JPMorgan Partners), focusing on network and systems technology investments.
At the same time as Leinwand came onboard, former White House Staff Secretary Jessica Hertz was also hired as General Counsel.
“I'm thrilled to be joining the Shopify team, and honoured to play a part in making the tools of entrepreneurship available to as many people as possible,” she said in a LinkedIn post.
“It has been a privilege to serve in the White House and on the Biden-Harris Transition Team, and I'll always be #teamjoe. I'm looking forward to a short break and getting started in November.”
