X5 Retail Group deploys e-receipts in Zero Waste push
Russian food retailer, X5 Retail Group, has announced that Perekrestok shoppers can use the supermarket chain’s mobile app to opt out of paper receipts.
They will instead receive e-receipts as part of X5’s Zero Waste initiative.
This option is available in 662 Perekrestok stores and will be expanded to all locations this year.

RTIH Innovation Awards
x5 was shortlisted in the Payments Innovation category at the recent 2020 RTIH Innovation Awards.
This was for its first cashierless store as part of the Pyaterochka chain.
Located in Moscow, the pilot store, dubbed On the Fly, is pitched at urban dwellers who prefer to make contactless purchases on the go.
Customers need to download an app and log in with their X5 ID.
The app generates a QR code that allows them to enter the store where they can choose from around 900 products, including an assortment of fresh foods and fresh brewed coffee.
Shoppers can pay for their purchase through X5’s proprietary Express Scan technology, which enables payment via a bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or a self-service checkout.
Cameras and sensors monitor the entrances, exits, the location of customers and lighting in the store.
Electronic shelf labelling makes it possible to quickly and remotely update price information. There is also 24-hour CCTV, while the app offers customer support and a specialist hotline.
