Getir achieves unicorn status with big funding round
Getir, a Turkish grocery delivery startup, has completed a $300 million Series C funding round, led by Sequoia Capital and repeat investor Tiger Global.
This closely follows a $128 million Series B round and values the company at $2.6 billion.
Launched five and a half years ago, Getir arrived in London in January and is looking to expand its operations to Germany, France and the Netherlands in the coming months.
It also has its sights set on Brazil once the spread of the coronavirus settles.
"We began in 2015 with the vision to disrupt how people get their groceries. Every month, we deliver a variety of 1,500 products to millions of people in Turkey in an average of 10 minutes,” says Getir Founder, Nazim Salur.
“We have now raised $300 million and will use the investment for our ambitious European expansion. We are glad to announce that we have become the fastest Turkish unicorn.”
