Southern Co-op extends Snappy Shopper tie up after Chichester and Portsmouth trial

Southern Co-op customers can now get home deliveries, provided via the Snappy Shopper app, in more locations after a trial in Chichester and Portsmouth.

Its service is currently available from 26 Southern Co-op convenience stores following a pilot phase which took place from September to January.

More than 3,000 products covering, fresh foods, groceries, pet food, baby care, magazines and newspapers are on offer.

There have been nearly 10,000 orders from new and returning customers.

Andrew Farndell, Southern Co-op Head of Trading and Format, says: “The partnership with Snappy Shopper has been very successful. We have worked very hard on ensuring we provide our customers with excellent service standards and good availability.”

“Operationally we have been very customer focussed by making the deliveries within the hour and as a result we are seeing customers actively using the platform and returning every week.”

Andy Batt, Head of Group Development at Snappy Shopper, comments: “High quality service standards are the cornerstone both for home delivery and shopping in-store.”

“From the start Southern Co-op has prioritised order processing and delivery times as the foundation of their delivery service and built on providing an excellent customer experience.”

“This is resulting in very satisfied shoppers, making repeat purchases on a weekly basis. We are looking forward to the future with Southern Co-op.”

Justin King

Last month, former Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King took a “significant” stake in Snappy Shopper.

He also said he would join the Snappy Group’s board as Non-Executive Director following a recently launched Series A funding round.

Snappy Group is formed of two businesses: Snappy Shopper and Hungrrr.

King, who is also a non-executive director at Marks & Spencer, commented: “I have been hugely impressed by the Snappy Group's affordable solution, leadership team and rapid growth.”

“The company is championing the needs of businesses in their local community. Its proprietary technology provides local businesses with an affordable delivery solution which enables them to compete in this fast changing market segment.”

“This not only caters to the trend for top up shopping but also an increasing desire by consumers to access and support local enterprises.”

He concluded: "This is an exciting and pivotal time for the business and I believe that I will be able to add significant value.”

“I look forward to working with the management team as the business continues its expansion and grows its market share further within the thriving UK convenience market and beyond."
