Alex Holt is set to become Woolworths Group’s first Chief Sustainability Officer.

This executive level leadership role aims to drive concerted action across each of the retailer’s brands and businesses as it work towards its targets for 2025 and beyond.

“Alex will continue the work to embed sustainability in our products and operations and foster collaboration with partners on some of the industry’s biggest sustainability challenges,” Woolworths Group said in a LInkedIn post.

Since 2016, Holt has overseen the sustainability portfolio as General Manager of Sustainability, Health and Quality. Following her new appointment, Woolworths Group is recruiting a General Manager of Quality Assurance and Food Safety.

“The pursuit of a better tomorrow is central to our business and we believe it's essential our group executive includes a leader solely dedicated to sustainability to drive meaningful change,” its LinkedIn post concluded.

Automated CFC

Woolworths Group recently announced plans for its first automated customer fulfilment centre (CFC) in Auburn, New South Wales as it looks to better serve the online grocery needs of Western Sydney customers.

If approved by the NSW Government, the retailer will build the facility in partnership with Knapp, whose automation technology will help personal shoppers pick and dispatch up to 50,000 deliveries a week.
