emerchantpay flags need for post-Covid unified commerce strategy
The coronavirus powered shift away from the UK high street opens up a £74.6 billion potential revenue opportunity for online retailers, according to research from emerchantpay.
The company surveyed 2,003 UK consumers.
One in five said they’d be inclined to shop less on the high street now versus before the pandemic.
This is particularly apparent in older people, with 27% of Gen X and Baby Boomers less likely to buy items in physical stores post-pandemic, in addition to 25% of 77+ year olds.
For those that do choose to venture in-store, payment habits have changed. A quarter of those surveyed said they will use their mobile phone more to buy stuff in-store in a post-Covid world.
Jonas Reynisson, emerchantpay's Founder and CEO, comments: “This research comes at a pivotal moment for British retailers, many of whom are having to rethink their entire business model to survive in the post pandemic world.”
“While the findings may vary by generation, what’s clear is that a unified commerce strategy is more important now than it has ever been."
