James Wilson departs Commonwealth Bank to take on CDTO role at WooliesX

James Wilson has joined WooliesX, the digital arm of Woolworths Group, as Chief Digital Technology Officer.

Arriving from Commonwealth Bank, where he served as Distinguished Engineer, he will be working across Woolworths, Everyday Rewards, BigW and Countdown.

In a LinkedIn post, Wilson said: “The last two months have been an incredible welcome to, and immersion into, the business. I've worked in stores, fulfilment centres, and even been out on delivery trucks in the early hours of the morning (they didn't let me drive the truck though!).”

He added: “I’ve never experienced such a thoughtful, considered, and wonderfully intense induction into a new role. It's a testament to the customer and team focus of Woolies, and has been immensely helpful in learning this industry that's new to me.”

“We've got an incredible team, and an immensely important mission to fulfil. And I'm ecstatic to play a role in shaping how we engineer technology to create better experiences together for a better tomorrow.”

WooliesX

Woolworths created WooliesX in 2017, combining its digital, e-commerce, data, and customer divisions under one roof.

It is headed up by Amanda Bardwell, the previous director of Woolworths Food Digital, which was folded into WooliesX.

Its website states: “Our organisation hinges on both B2C and B2B relationships. We collaborate with our partners to activate a dynamic retail ecosystem and create initiatives our customers know and love, like Everyday Rewards, one of Australia’s most popular loyalty programmes.”

“Alongside Woolworths Supermarkets, we’ve helped make online shopping simpler and more intuitive and were awarded #1 in customer satisfaction for online groceries by Canstar for our combined effort.”
