Blockchain powered rapid grocery delivery in metaverse service goes live

US startup Deliver Like The Wind has tapped blockchain technology for a new service that lets consumers get ultra-fast groceries in the metaverse.

This closely follows a $750 million funding round that valued the firm at $6 billion.

In an online post, Deliver Like The Wind Founder and CEO, Gary Chancer, said: “I was in the bath one day when I got to thinking that the average delivery time by quick commerce startups was too slow, and would soon become obsolete. If we didn’t make it obsolete, some other visionary would.”

“So we decided to offer delivery within two minutes of placing an order. And if our drivers and riders failed to deliver on time, they would sing Shaddap You Face by Joe Dolce to the customer, FREE OF CHARGE! What’s not to like?”

Whilst that worked for a while, it soon became apparent that Deliver Like The Wind’s hipster doofus customers wanted more.

He added: “Innovating and leading from the front is the only way to survive (and therefore thrive) in this business.”

“It dawned on me, super duper fast delivery times just don’t cut it anymore. They’ve lost the wow factor that they had during the Covid-19 pandemic, when many people were forced to stay at home, didn’t change their pants for days on end, binged on Netflix, drank wine in the afternoons, and ate McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

“But now that people are venturing out of their homes again, eating in restaurants and drinking wine in pubs and bars instead, ludicrously quick delivery services are no longer important to them.”

Enter blockchain technology and the metaverse. And, at some point in the near future, NFTs. Because, like, duh.

Chancer is confident that his customers will think, “I don’t really understand what’s going on here, but I’m told this is cool so count me in, dude!”

His online post concluded: “The metaverse opens vast opportunities for brands to make themselves look hip and in the process line the pockets of PRs by sending out long winded press releases about connecting with an entirely new generation of users.”

“This project is yet another step forward in the digital era for our dope startup. Peace out, dawg!”

Gary Chancer is 38.
