Pitt on the Go store opens at University of Pittsburgh, powered by Amazon Just Walk Out technology

Amazon has announced the expansion of its Just Walk Out technology at the University of Pittsburgh.

The launch of Pitt on the Go at the Petersen Events Center, in collaboration with Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services, marks the second deployment of the solution on the University of Pittsburgh campus.

“The University of Pittsburgh is fortunate to have a robust collaboration in place with Amazon,” says Pitt Athletic Director Heather Lyke.

“The addition of Just Walk Out technology to our fan experience at the Petersen Events Center is yet another way that the two parties continue to work together to drive innovation in collegiate athletics.”

Customers can enter the store using a credit card and select items. Just Walk Out technology detects what shoppers take from or return to the shelves and creates a virtual shopping session.

When customers finish, they leave the store without waiting in line, and the payment method used to enter the store is charged for the items taken.

On to the next 100

In October, Amazon opened its 100th third party store powered by Just Walk Out technology.

In a LinkedIn post, Ritu Subash, Principal PM - Physical Stores Tech - Just Walk Out at Amazon, said: “Milestones like these make the work we do worth it! On to the next 100.”

The tech can be found in airports, stadiums, schools, grocery and convenience stores around the world.
