Andy Gamble, Chief Information Officer at Currys, has taken to social media to discuss the power of listening in cultivating inclusive workplace environments.
In a LinkedIn post, he said: “It struck me today that amongst the many valuable skills in a leader’s toolbox - one skill outshines the rest - listening”
“ I don’t mean just waiting for the other person to stop talking to get your moment to respond, but truly understanding what someone is sharing in the moment.”
He added: “Forget listening to reply. Listen to understand. To grasp the unspoken and that which is between the lines. There is a rich seam of awesomeness there, waiting to be discovered.”
“So here’s the deal - let’s try to be people who listen louder than we speak. Let’s be the ones who understand before we answer. Try it - you might like it.”
