Two store openings in one day as Lidl Ireland focuses on self-checkouts, loyalty programmes and ESLs

Lidl Ireland last week re-opened a refurbished and extended store in Headford Road, Galway along with a new store in Boucher Road, Belfast.

Tech highlights include a self-checkouts first and implementation of electronic shelf labelling and the Lidl Plus loyalty programme.

In a LinkedIn post, David Scriney, IT Business Consulting Director at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland, said: “Two store openings in one day! It seemed impossible at times but today with great teamwork and planning we re-opened our refurbished and extended store in Headford Road, Galway along with a brand new store in Boucher Road, Belfast.”

He added: “Both stores feature our latest technology for our customers and store colleagues. Headford Road has also become our first store outside of Dublin with self-checkouts, offering a new in-store experience for customers there.”

“A lot of hard work goes into store openings from every department across Lidl. For the IT team, a new store opening involves: building out a robust and secure network and server infrastructure to support store systems; implementation of Lidl Plus, our customer loyalty programme; installing tills, payment terminals, back office systems, our internal employee kiosks, connected headsets, printers, handheld mobile office devices and much more; and implementation of electronic shelf labelling.”
