BIXOLON and IMedia team up to power GreenBottle reverse vending machines in Poland
BIXOLON Europe has announced a partnership with iMedia and HANT to support the roll-out of GreenBottle reverse vending machines (RVMs) across Poland.
GreenBottle, developed by iMedia, consists of smart kiosks that collect PET plastic bottles and cans in exchange for instant digital rewards. The machines are being installed nationwide as part of Poland’s efforts to increase recycling rates, aligning with the government’s new recycling initiative.
The machines needed to operate 24/7 in public spaces, withstand exposure to weather, high user traffic, and potential vandalism, while keeping maintenance to a minimum. To meet these demands and ensure smooth integration with its proprietary software, iMedia worked with HANT to select BIXOLON’s BK3-21 thermal kiosk receipt printer.
The printer issues receipts including container details and discount codes in under two seconds.
Rafal Milko, IT Specialist at iMedia, says: “The new solution ensures reliable receipt printing and improved user experience for those interacting with the GreenBottle machines. In the context of the project’s dynamic growth, the implementation of BIXOLON’s printers enables easy scalability and rapid deployment of new devices without redesigning the entire system.”
Paul Kim, Managing Director at BIXOLON Europe, says: “We are delighted to be partnering with iMedia and HANT on the GreenBottle project, which is a fantastic example of technology being used to drive real change. Recycling is high on the agenda across Europe and Poland in particular, and initiatives like this make it easier for people to take part while helping cities meet their sustainability targets.”
He adds: “It’s exciting to see our printers contributing to that journey, ensuring every transaction is simple, seamless and reliable for the user. Projects like GreenBottle show how the right technology can have a genuine impact on everyday behaviour, and we look forward to seeing these systems expand across Poland, helping to make recycling easier and more accessible for everyone.”
2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS
Green retail was a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.
We received a record number of entries and many fantastic examples of the continued resilience and dynamism of the retail space during hugely challenging times.
For a full rundown of all of the shortlisted entries, click here.
Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC in Central London on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.
In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”
“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”
He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”
Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended our 2025 gathering.
