Morrisons Chief AI Officer Mohsen Ghasempour: AI innovation should start with people not tech
Meaningful AI transformation starts with people, not technology. So says Dr Mohsen Ghasempour, Chief AI Officer at Morrisons. Ghasempour recently joined the UK grocery retailer from Kingfisher. He has taken on overall responsibility for data and AI strategy, with a remit spanning customer growth, colleague empowerment, operational efficiency, manufacturing excellence and commercial excellence. He reports directly to Morrisons CEO Rami Baitiéh and took up the role on 1st October.
In a LinkedIn post, Ghasempour said: “Two weeks into my journey at Morrisons, and one of the highlights has been visiting our logistics network and spending time with the brilliant people who keep our operations moving. Behind every product reaching our stores are incredible teams managing enormous complexity, balancing efficiency, availability and the everyday challenges of getting food to customers across the UK.”
He added: “The best AI opportunities come from understanding real problems, and nobody understands those problems better than the people dealing with them every day. That is why I believe meaningful AI transformation starts with people, not technology. A big thank you to Andy Gillies (Logistics Director) and the rest of our fantastic logistics leadership team for sharing their insights, challenges and experiences. Early days, and still a lot to learn, but I am confident we are going to build something special here. Watch this space!”
