Lidl GB hails milestone as retailer completes migration from Microsoft to Google Workspace

Lidl GB reports that it has made the move to Google Workspace.

In a LInkedIn post, Sandra Heydorn, Head of Service and Support at Lidl UK, said: “I am not one to post anything anywhere really, but today is special. I am incredibly proud to announce that Lidl GB has successfully completed our migration from Microsoft to Google Workspace.”

She added: “As the Project Manager for this transition, seeing a year of hard work culminate in such a smooth "Go-Live" is an absolute highlight. This wasn't just a technical switch; it was a massive cultural shift toward a more collaborative and agile future for our teams.”

“Success like this doesn’t happen overnight. To ensure our 4,000+ colleagues felt supported, we spent a full year preparing, including: The RDC Roadshow: Physically visiting 13 regional distribution centres (RDCs) across the country. A human centric approach: countless Google Community meetings, ambassador syncs, and "drop-in" sessions ensured no question went unanswered. Hybrid learning: Delivering a mix of onsite training, remote webinars, and "drop-in" sessions to meet everyone where they work.”

Heydorn concluded: “This was an amazing team effort, and I want to personally thank: The project team: You are a fantastic and extremely talented group of professionals. Your dedication and technical brilliance made the complex look easy. The IT service and support team: Your continuous dedication to our large userbase makes all the difference. Our ambassadors: You were the heartbeat of this project. Your engagement, advocacy, and support for your colleagues were the "secret sauce" of this migration.”

“Thank you to everyone who leaned in, asked questions, and embraced this change. This was a true team effort in every sense of the word. Thank you for your patience, your energy, and your commitment to making this happen.”

2026 RTIH Innovation Awards

Digital transformation will be a key focus area at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards are now open for entries and celebrate global retail technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our winners will be revealed at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony, taking place at The HAC in Central London on Wednesday, 4th November.

Check out our 2025 winners here.

Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”

“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”

He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”

Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended our 2025 gathering.
