Jonathan Hinds departs Matalan to join musicMagpie as WMS Product Owner

Jonathan Hinds has left Matalan, where he spent the past couple of years, serving as Warehouse Systems Manager/WMS Product Owner, and joined musicMagpie as WMS Product Owner.

In a LinkedIn post, he said: “Today (19th March) is my last day at Matalan, so I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone I’ve worked with over the last few years.”

“It’s been a pleasure working with so many talented people across supply chain, operations, IT and the wider business, and I’m really proud of what we’ve delivered together. A special thank you as well to the DC Systems Team for all the hard work, support and for stepping up time and time again through pressure, change and everything in between.”

He added: “Now on to a new challenge. I’m really pleased to be joining musicMagpie as WMS Product Owner. From everything I’ve seen so far, the culture and approach feel like a great fit for me and my own values. The team seem great, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and working with them. Wishing everyone at Matalan all the best going forward, and if we’ve worked together over the years, please stay in touch.”

Matalan

In February, we reported that Matalan had launched a pilot involving Toshiba’s VisualStore 6 (VS6) EPoS solution, with three pilot stores now live in the UK with the self-service offering.

Roger Bannister, Business Development Manager at Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, said: "Three down, 223 to go! Our incredible team from Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions UK & Ireland and Matalan transformed the Coventry South store as part of our initial pilot phase."

"It's been so exciting to see the pilot stores come to life, and early feedback from store colleagues and customers has been really positive. Time now to pause (but not for too long!), reflect, and get ready for roll-out."

2026 RTIH Innovation Awards

Physical stores will be a key focus area at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards are now open for entries and celebrate global retail technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our winners will be revealed at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony, taking place at The HAC in Central London on Wednesday, 4th November.

Check out our 2025 winners here.

Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”

“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”

He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”

Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended our 2025 gathering.
