In-store technology veteran Scott Albert calls time on epic 30 year run at convenience retailer 7-Eleven

Scott Albert has announced his departure from 7-Eleven where he spent almost 30 years, most recently serving as Vice President, Head of Store & Enterprise Products.

In a LinkedIn post, in which he did not reveal his next move, he said: "After nearly 30 years, my chapter with 7-Eleven has come to an end. I started in the stores in Florida way back in 1996, and over the years had the opportunity to grow through operations, technology, product, and leadership roles across the company. Most recently, I was leading In-Store Technology and Enterprise Product, supporting platforms and experiences used across roughly 13,000 locations."

He added: "What I’ll remember most isn’t the titles or projects. It’s the people. Convenience retail is a tough business. Stores never stop. Fuel, food, payments, operations, inventory, labour, logistics, equipment, digital experiences…everything has to work together, every hour of every day. I was fortunate to work alongside incredibly smart operators, franchisees, engineers, product leaders, technicians, and store teams who cared deeply about serving customers and supporting each other."

"I’m proud of what we built together over the years: modernising store technology, scaling product practices, improving operational reliability, and helping connect technology decisions more directly to business outcomes at store level. Most of all, I’m grateful for the relationships and friendships that came from the journey. To everyone I had the chance to work with over the last three decades, thank you. It was an incredible ride. I’m excited for what comes next."

2026 RTIH Innovation Awards

In-store technology will be a key focus area at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards are now open for entries and celebrate global retail technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our winners will be revealed at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony, taking place at The HAC in Central London on Wednesday, 4th November.

Check out our 2025 winners here.

Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”

“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”

He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”

Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended our 2025 gathering.
