Ikea UK thinks small as it opens new Plan and Order Point store in Aberdeen’s Union Square later this month
Ikea is to open the doors of a new Plan and Order Point store in Aberdeen, Scotland on Wednesday, 14th October, at 10am. This will be located in the heart of the city in Union Square. Plan and Order Points are smaller stores, designed to provide customers with bespoke kitchen, bedrooms and storage planning services.
Customers will be able to shop from a curated range of around 600 home furnishing accessories available for immediate takeaway, including BILLY bookcase, KALLAX shelving units, ALEX drawer unit and LACK side table. A collection area for online orders will also be available, with customers able to return purchases to the store.
People will be able to drop-in or book an appointment online to start their design. Products can then be ordered from across the full Ikea range for delivery direct to the customer’s home, to the Plan and Order Point or a Click and Collect location of their choice.
Ikea closed its Aberdeen Order and Collection Point in Wellington Square on 1st March, as the retailer transitions to its new planning led format in the city centre.

This central location makes it easier than ever for our customers to get all the help they need to design their dream home spaces, whether it’s for their kitchen, bedroom or living room storage. We look forward to welcoming the local community inside to experience our new store in just a few weeks’ time.”
The new location will complement existing Ikea stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow, a Plan and Order Point in Dundee, and in-home planning services available throughout the Inverness area. It comes after Ikea opened seven new UK stores last year, with two city centre stores on London’s Oxford Street and in Brighton, two new Plan and Order Points in Hull and York, and three new format small stores in retail park locations in Harlow, Norwich and Chester.

Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.
In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”
“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”
He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”
