Global first for racing as Ascot goes contactless

Last weekend’s Victoria Cup Raceday at Ascot saw racegoers buying their drinks via contactless cards and mobile devices for the first time.

A pilot involved a solution from Worldpay with customers using Samsung devices. The system will now be deployed at this year’s Royal Ascot, with over 50 roving sellers involved. “It was really exciting for us to become the first racecourse anywhere in the world to run with this solution thanks to both Worldpay and Samsung and the brilliant hawking team, who kept smiling even when the weather took a turn for the worse,” says George Vaughan, Head of Technology at Ascot Racecourse.
