Amazon Waitrose acquisition bid falls through
Amazon made an attempt to buy Waitrose late last year, according to a report by The Sunday Times.
Amazon’s VP of Special Projects, Ajay Kavan, was in contact with an unnamed director at John Lewis Partnership, the owner of Waitrose. The newspaper cites an unidentified source, stating that there were “enormously informal” discussions in November, but John Lewis’s Chairman, Charlie Mayfield, decided not to take them further.
“These times are ripe for speculation, but there has been no approach to the partnership by Amazon regarding Waitrose, and nor would I expect there to be,” Mayfield commented.
