No Bitcoin for you! Alipay confirms anti-crypto stance
Alibaba’s digital payments arm, Alipay, is banning any transactions related to Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.
In a Twitter thread, it stated: “There are several reports about @Alipay being used for Bitcoin transactions. To reiterate, Alipay closely monitors over-the-counter transactions to identify irregular behaviour and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. If any transactions are identified as being related to Bitcoin or other virtual currencies, we immediately stop the relevant payment services.”
Earlier this week, crypto exchange Binance confirmed on Twitter that it had begun accepting fiat currencies through Alipay and WeChat. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao stressed that the company was not working directly with WeChat or Alipay, and it was still possible to use them for peer-to-peer transactions.
