Poundland owns Nicholas Soames on Twitter

You mess with Poundland at your peril.

Last year, the retailer hit out at Thameslink on social media, after the rail firm responded to a tweet from a passenger involving a picture of a departure board showing train cancellations: "Very sorry Kevin. Appreciate at the moment the service is less Ferrero Rocher and more Poundland cooking chocolate."

That prompted Poundland to tweet Charles Horton, Chief Executive of Thameslink's parent firm Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), stating that it served millions of shoppers and had a "pretty good idea about what great customer service is, but if we ever fall short, perhaps we’ll describe ourselves as a bit Thameslink”.

It added: “If you don’t want to hear from our extremely twitchy legal team, we suggest you remove your tweet.” GTR later apologised and deleted its message.

Now, the retailer has set its sights on Nicholas Soames, member of Parliament for Mid Sussex, who last week branded Labour’s John McDonnell a "stupid Poundland Lenin" in a row over Winston Churchill’s legacy. “Let us be clear, you would do well to think about what your grandfather said in 1906: “The recognition of their language is precious to small people,” it tweeted. “Wise words. Because when you don’t, you’ll find small people will, perhaps unfairly, judge your character by your words.”

Poundland’s social media team, we salute you!
