JD.com targets manufacturers with new e-commerce offering

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com is building a direct online retailing system for manufacturers.

The aim is to reduce the time of company inspection and to offer a low entry cost for manufacturers to become online retailers on JD.com platforms like JD Pingou. Manufacturers can get free access to tools such as online games and social media marketing, reaching target customers, particularly in Chinese third- and fourth-tier cities.

In addition, before 31st December, those whose business categories are clothing and underwear, outdoor equipment, shoes and baggage, and daily household goods can be exempt from platform usage fees.

Through the new programme, consumers can purchase at lower prices, as the circulation cost on the supply side can be significantly reduced, according to Zhao Ping, Director of the Department of International Trade Research at the Academy of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
