Asda appoints Anna Barsby as Chief Digital and Technology Officer

Asda has hired former Morrisons Chief Technology Officer Anna Barsby as interim Chief Digital and Technology Officer, following the grocery giant’s sale by Walmart to the Issa brothers.

She joins as part of its partnership with Tessiant, the management consultancy she co-founded and through which she recently worked on a digital transformation project at Fortnum & Mason.

Her CV also includes stints as CIO at Halfords, Director of IT Projects and Programmes at TUI Travel and Head of Infrastructure and Service Delivery at Whitbread.

“I bring grocery and retail experience, but I am a people and change leader who loves the value that technology can drive in business,” she says.

“This is an exciting opportunity to really engage the skills and talent of Asda. It is a unique chance, and you rarely get to do that at this scale.”

Barsby replaces Phil Tenney in the CDTO role. Tenney has been with Asda for nearly eight years, joining as CIO in 2013.
