Asda Stevenage store installs electronic shelf edge labelling tech

Asda has rolled out an electronic shelf edge labelling (eSEL) solution at its Stevenage innovation store.

James Sands, Project Manager - Tech Store at Asda, said in a LinkedIn post: “It’s taken just over a year and has probably been the most challenging project I’ve delivered, but after five nights of installing we now have a fully integrated eSEL solution across 22,000 lines in our innovation store.”

Test and learn

Asda also recently launched a personalised chocolate machine at its Stevenage store.

It will be testing out the Candy Mechanics solution over the next three months, with customers able to choose a template, customise it and then watch the machine work its magic.

Also at Stevenage, the retailer has launched Fragrance Point in its health and beauty aisle. This is a self-service kiosk with over 300 fragrance lines, from Vera Wang to Hugo Boss, that customers can browse, purchase and get delivered to their home.

Asda, which earlier this year launched a new sustainability store in Leeds and is involved in various “test and learn” initiatives under CEO Roger Burnley, is trialling a number of other technologies at Stevenage.

These include 3D holograms, further info on which can be found here.
