Ocucon picks up RTIH coronavirus innovation award
Ocucon has emerged triumphant in the Best Coronavirus Innovation category at the 2020 RTIH Innovation Awards.
The pandemic has had a major impact on the way that we shop and the way that retailers operate.
This award celebrates a company who has best turned to technology to solve the challenges presented by the Covid-19 era, improving in-store and/or online experiences for both staff and customers.
Ocucon impressed our judging panel with Occupi by Ocucon, an intelligent occupancy management system that allows retailers to remotely monitor and manage the flow of shoppers in and out of their stores – coordinated via signage, CCTV and door entry and closing systems.
This is installed in Aldi’s 1,040 UK and Ireland stores with other major retailers now looking to invest in the technology.
Tiffany Lung, Retail Analyst, praised a “great use of AI to promote social distancing in-stores instead of the standard traffic light system.”
Gerald Dawson, Finance Director, Forthglade Foods, commented: “Rather than an acceleration of existing trends, this is a solution to a brand new problem that no-one could foresee – actively managing the number of customers in a store. And there has been rapid deployment with Aldi.”
Ocucon CEO and Co-founder, Gary Trotter, said: “We're so proud to have won the top prize, especially since we were facing really tough competition. We're delighted that the judges and RTIH have recognised Occupi for this award.”
“The whole team here at Ocucon worked really hard to deliver an innovative and customer driven solution to help retailers solve the numerous challenges posed by this unprecedented global pandemic.”
